Welcome to our quirky corner of the web, where fun meets sustainability! I’m Ryan Slayton, the proud founder of QuirkWorks 3D. Our mission? To craft eco-friendly, open-ended toys that spark creativity and inspire outdoor adventures.
It all began when I became a first-time dad to my energetic four-year-old. Like any parent, I wanted the best for my child, which meant finding toys that were not only entertaining but also kind to our planet. The idea took shape as I watched my little one, at just 18 months old, racing around the house with a collection of Hot Wheels cars from his grandpa. Inspired by the joy on his face, I set out to create toys that aligned with our values of sustainability, creativity, and local craftsmanship.
Before launching QuirkWorks 3D, I delved into the world of toy design, blending my passion for CAD design and 3D printing with a commitment to eco-friendly practices. Starting from my home, I designed and printed unique items that quickly gained popularity. Encouraged by friends and family, I opened an Etsy shop, and soon, orders poured in faster than my kitchen table could handle!
In our first year, the response was phenomenal, and with the help of my family, we fulfilled countless orders. This success led us to scale our operations, embracing additive manufacturing as our production method. Why additive manufacturing, you ask? It allows us to tweak designs based on your feedback, source materials domestically, and use environmentally friendly PLA plastic. Plus, it keeps our energy usage low and our turnaround times quick.
Sure, additive manufacturing has its quirks—our toys might not have the glossy finish of mass-produced items—but the benefits far outweigh the challenges. We’re proud of our commitment to eco-friendly production, and we’re excited to keep innovating and growing with your support.
